AI Remote

For Garmin watches and Edge bike computers

AI Remote

Train hard, work hard.

Ask GPT from your Garmin watch or Edge.

How it works

Set up in three steps

Nothing to paste into anything. The relay runs GPT for you, with your own OpenAI API key.

  1. Install

Get AI Remote (watches) or the free AI Remote for Edge from the Connect IQ Store on your phone, and open it on your device.

  2. Pair and add your key

The app shows a code. Enter it at ai.falkster.com/pair with an OpenAI API key from platform.openai.com, and pick a model and any automations.

  3. Ask from your wrist

Speak, type or tap a quick prompt. GPT answers on your watch or Edge, usually in a few seconds. Not sure what to ask? See examples.

  • Your watch or Edge
  • Garmin Connect on your phone
  • AI Remote relay
  • OpenAI, with your key

Features

Everything GPT can do from your wrist

Built for a glance between intervals: big type, three colours, and nothing that buzzes unless you asked for it.

Briefings you can trust at a glance

Every card says where each line comes from, so advice never passes for data.

  • Garmin numbers your watch measured
  • GPT GPT’s read and plan
  • Not available what it couldn’t see

Ask and get coached

  • Short answers and coaching, with up to three follow-up buttons for the next step.
  • Voice on watches and Edges with a microphone, transcribed with your key. Typing and quick prompts everywhere.
  • Web search for anything current, naming the source.

Cards, questions, tasks

  • Briefings, debriefs and recaps as cards you can read at a glance.
  • Tap-to-answer questions when a tap is enough.
  • Tasks GPT tracks for you over days, like a training block.

Built on your Garmin data

  • Heart rate, resting heart rate, stress, Body Battery, Pulse Ox, respiration, steps, calories, floors, intensity minutes, recovery time, VO2 max and finished workouts, if you share them.
  • GPT reads them only when it needs them, and never guesses a number it doesn’t have.
  • Sleep score and training status aren’t available to Connect IQ apps, so GPT says so.

Workouts and routes

  • Structured workouts with targets land in your device’s Workouts list.
  • Routes land in Courses, with stops marked.
  • Both arrive the next time you open the app.

Memory and automations

  • GPT remembers what you tell it: a goal race, an injury, your units.
  • Automations: scheduled prompts like a 7:00 morning briefing card or a Sunday training review.
  • See and delete every memory and automation on your settings page.

Fast when it matters

  • Live updates: with the app open, replies arrive within a second or two.
  • Optional instant phone alerts through the free ntfy app, shown on your watch like any notification.
  • AI Remote Ride puts GPT’s status on your activity screen; “Next from GPT” sits on any watch face that takes a complication.

What it can’t do

  • Send email or messages, book, buy or call. GPT says so and offers a reminder, a note or an automation instead.
  • Speak its replies: you read them on screen, for now.

Price

Pay once for the app. Pay OpenAI for what you use.

GPT runs on your own OpenAI API key, so OpenAI bills your API account directly, per use. No subscription to us.

AI Remote for watches

$2.99 one-time

From the Connect IQ Store.

AI Remote for Edge

Free

Garmin sells no paid apps on Edge, so it’s free there. AI Remote Face and AI Remote Ride are free too.

OpenAI usage

A few cents per question

Typical, with the default model. Billed by OpenAI to your API account. Set a monthly spending limit in your OpenAI account.

You need an API key from platform.openai.com, not a ChatGPT subscription: a ChatGPT Plus plan does not include API use.

Screenshots

Made to be read mid-session

The same look as your watch’s own screens: teal for GPT, blue for what your watch measured.

Devices

Garmin watches and Edge bike computers

AI Remote is a Connect IQ app for Garmin devices with Connect IQ 5.1 or newer. You also need the Garmin Connect app on your phone, on iPhone or Android.

Watches

Forerunner, fēnix, epix, Enduro, Venu, vívoactive, Instinct (AMOLED), MARQ, D2, Descent and Approach models.

Edge bike computers

Edge 540, 550, 840, 850, 1040, 1050 and 1060, Edge Explore 2 and 3, and Edge MTB, with the free AI Remote for Edge.

What depends on the model

Voice needs a microphone, as on fēnix 8, Forerunner 970 or Edge 1050. Glances need a watch with glances. The Connect IQ Store page lists every supported model.

Privacy

Your data stays small and short-lived

Off until you turn it on

No health data leaves your watch until you agree on the watch’s consent screen and share it, category by category.

Kept for days, not years

Vitals for 7 days, activities for 30, voice recordings for 3. A device that stops checking in is deleted after 180 days.

Your key, locked away

Your OpenAI API key is encrypted at rest, never shown again, never exported and never logged. Requests go to OpenAI under your account with store: false.

Only what GPT needs

Each request carries the last day of conversation, your settings, memories and automations. Garmin data goes only when GPT asks for it.

OpenAI’s API terms govern what OpenAI does with your requests. Read the privacy policy

FAQ

Questions

Do I need ChatGPT Plus?

No. You need an OpenAI API key, which you create at platform.openai.com. It’s a separate account from ChatGPT: a ChatGPT Plus plan doesn’t include API use. OpenAI bills the API per use, usually a few cents a question with the default model; set a monthly spending limit there.

Which devices does it run on?

Garmin watches and Edge bike computers with Connect IQ 5.1 or newer: Forerunner, fēnix, epix, Enduro, Venu, vívoactive, Instinct (AMOLED), MARQ, D2, Descent and Approach watches; Edge 540, 550, 840, 850, 1040, 1050 and 1060, Edge Explore 2 and 3, and Edge MTB. Voice needs a microphone. You also need the Garmin Connect app on your phone.

Can it book things or send messages for me?

No. GPT can’t send email or messages, book, buy or call. Ask anyway and it says so, then offers a reminder, a note or an automation instead.

Where does my data go?

To this relay at ai.falkster.com, which keeps it for days, not years, and to OpenAI under your own API account when GPT needs it. Health data is shared only after you agree on the watch, category by category. The privacy policy has the details.

Can I use my own agent instead of GPT?

Yes. On the pairing page choose Pair without a key: you get an API token for your device, and any agent that can use an OpenAPI spec connects through the relay’s API. No OpenAI key is stored then.

Can I try it first?

Yes. On the pairing screen, press Select and choose Try the demo: a scripted demo fills the screens so you can see how it works, with no key. Settings › Leave the demo shows a pairing code.

Will it drain my battery?

It’s built not to. In the background the app checks in every 5 to 60 minutes (you choose; Garmin allows nothing shorter) with a small request through your phone. Live updates run only while the app is open. With phone alerts on, GPT’s messages arrive as ordinary phone notifications, so you can pick a long interval and still hear about things quickly.

Is it medical advice?

No. AI Remote and GPT give coaching and general wellness information, not medical advice. Garmin’s readings are estimates. Talk to a doctor about health concerns, and in an emergency call your local emergency number.

Is AI Remote made by OpenAI or Garmin?

No. It’s an independent app by falkster, not affiliated with or endorsed by OpenAI or Garmin.
